SportsMechanics, the current performance analysts of multiple Indian teams, including cricket, hockey, boxing, athletics, weight lifting, table tennis, volleyball & squash, is a sports technology company headquartered at Chennai. Our primary focus is Team and Player Performance Analysis and other value added services to sports organisations with regard to fan engagement. We have been specializing in this field in a wide range of sports. With our experience and expertise we have worked with many national teams and federations on a wide range of services over the years.
Ramakrishnan (Ramky) was a passionate cricketer during his playing days. He had another passion that few knew – technology. And this combination is what made him aspire to create solutions that will enable teams & players to perform to their best. While our country has been the land of many technological innovations for many industries, sports has been one that has been left behind. Ramky wanted this changed. He wanted India to shine in the arena of sports technology as well just as we do in other arenas. Post his playing days, this passion made him start SportsMechanics – typical silicon valley style – from his garage. Started in 2006 with 4 employees, SportsMechanics is now a team of 55. It has grown to a stage where many people consider SportsMechanics as a dream destination.
SportsMechanics has been in the space of sports technology from 2006. Since then we have managed to integrate the world of sports with technology to provide feedback to players, coaches, team managements, fans and administrators with increased speed, accuracy and conciseness. It all started with Ramky’s dream of bringing in scientific methods for coaching purposes. When the coaching methodologies were taken stock of, it was shocking to note that not much had changed from the yesteryears. As the game has become more athletic, and training methodologies for physical fitness have improved drastically, why not the skill acquisition & coaching part? With increased competition and the nature of cricket itself changing, it was imperative that scientific methodologies need to be introduced sooner than later to ensure that our young cricketers are also coached the right way. It was this thought process that made Ramky take up video analysis in a major way. Starting with simple video analysis, Ramky kept innovating and introduced many technology-based solutions to make the entire process smoother and more efficient. Slowly, video-based performance analysis was done for players and one such initial break was the MRF Pace foundation. After that, SportsMechanics got the opportunity to be the ‘performance analysts’ with the Indian Cricket Team – first time such a word was ever used! Since joining the Indian cricket team in 2003, the performances of the team has become more consistent and has been of the rise – winning the T20 world cup, reaching #1 ranking in tests & winning the ODI world cup. In addition to cricket, SportsMechanics forayed into other sports by working with 5 Indian contingents at the Olympic Games.
Another off-shoot of SportsMechanics is the SportsMentor.tv platform. The platform itself aims to bridge the gap between the player and his coach. Today we are in a world where millions of dollars of business is done using the internet & other technologies. If so much can be achieved in the sphere of business, why not in sports? SM.tv intends to bring the entire sporting community under one virtual roof where knowledge exchange and learning happens. The platform offers e-learning capabilities to players, Coaches and Institutions to effectively govern, manage, analyze, and report development and goal achievement for individual players and the team as a whole. Upcoming cricketers will be able to choose a mentor from the SM panel and get advice from them. With many more features like a training scheduling calendar, personal channel where a cricketer can broadcast these videos to his community of people, and so on, SM intends to be a holistic solution to an aspiring cricketer rather than just be an online coaching manual. The objective was to come up with a platform which offers a cricketer all the necessary tools to hone his skills and improve in an accelerated manner. The platform has been built for the benefit of the entire cricketing fraternity by a group of cricket fanatics.
Today, the solutions provided by SportsMechanics to teams (starting from the Indian cricket team to many IPL teams), organisations & players is appreciated world over. It is noteworthy that many premier institutions (like ICC & SAI) and premier coaches consider the solutions provided by SportsMechanics to be the best in the world. A dream of converging 2 passions – technology and sports – is a journey. But it can be said with a lot of confidence that Ramky & SportsMechanics are on enroute to achieving their dream!

As a country, India has been innovating over the ages. History is replete with instances of innovation by the society at large - from the discover of zero to Panini’s Ashtadhaya and more recently Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha. While Brexit is a recent occurrence, India managed to gain independence 70 years ago without firing a single shot through an idea which was transferred from one person to the next to create a veritable movement. Sanskrit is till today the only language that is closest to machine coded, programmable language. However, our innovations did not give rise to products and services that can impact the global market and thus give rise to wealth for the nation. From a point where India contributed over 27% of the world’s GDP about 350 years ago, we slipped to less than 2% in the years between 1750 to 1950. But I can say with conviction that over the last 70 years we are back and our future is even brighter. This phenomenon was set into motion in the year 2000 when the world realized the potential of India , and the credit is largely ascribed to Y2K. Over the last 15 years we have come a long way from a couple of million dollars to a nearly 300billion dollar IT industry. We are today poised at a very interesting juncture in the history of evolution of the region where we see innovation giving rise to home grown global products such as PayTM and InMobi that have the power to impact the world. I firmly believe that in the next 15 years, innovation will propel India to achieve a massive increase in the GDP and influence global markets and industry academia collaboration will form the basis for this growth. I believe that MeltingPot2020 and WAIN will play a major part in this transformational story of India reaching the heights of innovation and in the process moving from a third world country to a first world country within the next couple of years.
SAMSUNG – T-HUB - CL PARTNER TO IGNITE THE SPARK OF INNOVATION IN YOUNG MINDS

IIT – A place which not only focuses on making men as engineers, scientists, doctors, merchants, theologians but also as men of high character, probity and honour, whose conduct through life will show they bear the hall-mark of a great University.
- The Founder, IIT-BHU
The University itself is portrayed as a technical hub addressing the various needs of the research inclined. Many activities pertaining to science and humanity have been planned and executed from the onset resulting in a highest position in the University ranking when compared globally. The focus toward research for a University can be gauged by its research outputs. Research outputs could take any form starting from chapters to publications. There is a saying by Somerset Maugham, noted English novelist - “We don’t write because we want to, we write because we have to” As an attestation of the above statement, IIT BHU is committed towards being a leading research institution by publishing 788 papers since Jan 2106 which also includes papers stemming from 40 International Collaborations. This prestigious Institute recently joined hands with Accendere, an edtech startup committed to promoting research culture among all stakeholders in the Society.
Accendere, a research incubation startup which is part of the $200 million CL Educate education conglomerate, works with institutions on fostering innovation by developing platforms, bringing in industrial funding, setting up innovation labs, encouraging and assisting in scientific research process, and in enhancing productivity in terms of research publications, patents, prototyping and commercialization of products, spin off ventures etc. As part of Accendere’s research engagement with IITBHU, 300 students from across 3 departments, namely Pharmaceutics, Biochemical and Biomedical have been shortlisted from over 1200 students to be a part of this prestigious industry linked initiative. The students along with 30 young faculty will form the core inter disciplinary research group focused on undertaking industry friendly research and producing tangible outputs for the sponsoring corporate. This collaboration is expected to bring out a revolutionary change in research decorum thereby helping the young generation to gain knowledge in all possible directions. The students of the Bachelors program express great passion and are quite patriotic towards science. A developing nation like India should shower special attention both qualitative and quantitatively toward the youth as the nation’s fortunes completely rely on the next generation. One of key aspects of the engagement, would be the possible linkages formed between these young research clusters and the industry such as Sun Pharma and others, allowing students to take up research relevant to concerned industry, with back to back agreements in place for technology transfer, IP licensing and even student recruitment ensuring benefits to the students, researchers, institution and the industry.
Niti Ayog has selected 257 schools across India to set up Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL). Under the aegis of the Atal Innovation Mission, the vision of this program is to “Cultivate one Million children in India as Neoteric Innovators”. In the long run, the program has targeted setting up 500 ATLs across the country.
According to the Niti Ayog website, key features of ATL are as follows:
“ATL is a work space where young minds can give shape to their ideas through hands on do-it-yourself mode; and learn innovation skills. Young children will get a chance to work with tools and equipment to understand the concepts of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). ATL would contain educational and learning ‘do it yourself’ kits and equipment on – science, electronics, robotics, open source microcontroller boards, sensors and 3D printers and computers. Other desirable facilities include meeting rooms and video conferencing facility.
In order to foster inventiveness among students, ATL can conduct different activities ranging from regional and national level competitions, exhibitions, workshops on problem solving, designing and fabrication of products, lecture series etc. at periodic intervals.”
